SAN MARCOS – Two men who had been drinking heavily got into a violent fight Thursday night, with one getting hit over the head with a beer bottle and the other struck with a metal rod, sheriff's officials said. Deputies were called to a home on Harwich Drive near Woodland Parkway shortly before 9 p.m. after getting a call that someone had been assaulted with a machete. They found a man lying on the living room floor with a head wound. He was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Deputies later determined he had been hit with a metal rod, not a machete. The man who had been hit by the beer bottle was detained, but deputies later took him to the hospital after he complained of a headache, a swollen eye, a split lip and a lump on his forehead, deputies said. Witnesses who saw a portion of the fight told deputies the two men had been drinking heavily when they began to argue.
